Accounts & tags

Create and edit accounts under Settings → Accounts (Add / Edit open in a dialog). Types are bank, credit, cash, investment, and other. Optional color shows in lists.

Every transaction belongs to exactly one account (account_id is required).

After bank sync (or whenever history is incomplete), set an opening balance and as-of date on create or edit:

  • Opening is the account balance before transactions dated on or after the as-of date (signed cents — same sign convention as transactions: negative = money out / typical credit-card liability).
  • Current balance = opening + sum of transactions on or after the as-of date.
  • Leave both fields blank to use transaction history only (no anchor).

This is a ledger anchor, not a full reconcile workflow and not the provider/bank-reported balance.

When a linked account has a provider Bank balance, Edit account can suggest an opening so Ledger ≈ Bank after you save:

  • Suggested opening ≈ bank balance − sum of transactions on or after the as-of date
  • Default as-of is the earliest imported transaction for that account (so all imported history sits after the anchor). If there are no transactions yet, the default is the sync / bank balance date.
  • Choose Use suggestion to fill opening + as-of together; nothing is written until you Save. Dismiss or ignore anytime — Galene never auto-writes opening from the bank.
  • Manual accounts (no Bank value) do not get a fake bank suggestion. Optionally type what the bank shows and use the same formula when a default as-of is available.

Account rows (and the Home Balances widget) show Ledger — the computed balance above — and, for linked accounts after sync, Bank — the last provider-reported balance with its as-of time. Manual accounts hide Bank. Seeing drift is intentional; Galene does not silently write the ledger to match the bank.

Deleting an account opens a confirm dialog. Choose Move transactions to… another account — there is no “none” option. Galene reassigns that account’s transactions and scheduled items, then deletes the account.

If this is your only account, create another first; delete stays blocked until there is a destination.

Imported bank links on the deleted account are removed with it. Transactions that were reassigned stay on the destination account.

Tags are free-form labels you can attach to many transactions (many-to-many). Create and edit them under Settings → Tags (Add / Edit open in a dialog).

Deleting a tag opens a confirm dialog. Galene detaches the tag from all transactions and scheduled items, then removes the tag. Transactions themselves are unchanged.
