SimpleFIN

SimpleFIN is a protocol for pulling account and transaction data from a bank or bridge: the bank gives you a one-time setup token, and the app exchanges it once for a long-lived access URL. The SimpleFIN protocol docs cover the format.

  1. You paste a one-time setup token into Galene.
  2. Galene claims it once — a single POST to the URL encoded in the token — and stores the returned access URL.
  3. Every later sync uses the stored access URL. The setup token is discarded and cannot be reused.

Galene only accepts setup tokens that decode to an https URL.

  1. Get a setup token from SimpleFIN — or from your bank’s SimpleFIN settings, if your bank implements the protocol directly.
  2. In Galene, go to Settings → Bank sync → SimpleFIN and paste the token into the SimpleFIN setup token field.
  3. Press Connect. Galene claims the token and imports your accounts and transactions.

If the token was already used or is invalid, Galene says:

This SimpleFIN setup token is invalid or has already been used. Generate a new one in your SimpleFIN settings and try again.

If an existing connection later fails to authenticate, the access was revoked or expired:

Your SimpleFIN access was revoked or has expired. Generate a new setup token and reconnect.

In either case, generate a new setup token and reconnect.

SimpleFIN syncs at most every 2 hours. The bridge allows 24 requests per day per access, and each Galene sync is one request (GET /accounts), so 2 hours is the shortest interval that fits inside the daily budget. You can also set a connection to Manual only and press Sync now when you want it.

Disconnecting a SimpleFIN connection keeps the accounts and transactions already imported.
